My Neighbourhood’s Christmas Flashers
I live in your typical, almost normal, neighbourhood. The neighbours are all ‘nice’, keep their properties maintained, enjoy ‘normal’ conversations - things like that. However, every year as December begins to unroll, one by one my neighbours they turn into complete weirdos.
Lighting the way for Christmas Traffic
I tend to think that perhaps my neighbourhood has a Christmas decorating contest that I’ve never been invited to join. All of the neighbours on my block, with the exception of myself, go mental Christmas decorating everything outside that isn’t fast enough to get away. I can only imagine what their houses must look like inside. What is really strange is that each house seems to be competing to have a lighted Xmas decoration that is tackier than the next. Let me clear up my standpoint for a moment. A low-key arrangement of nice white outside lights - good thing. A lighted Christmas decoration that causes traffic accidents and can be seen for miles - not a good thing.
A Few Examples of Lighted Christmas Horrors
However, my neighbours have all found the perfect lighted Xmas decoration for their homes. Directly in front of me is an 8 foot tall Santa lighted Christmas decoration that stares at my house for the entire holiday season. Beside me is a large sleigh and reindeer Xmas decoration that flashes to music. But, my personal favourite is the large house on the other side of me. They not only have one lighted Christmas decoration, but a whole yard full of them. I’m talking, lighted trees, lighted Santas, elves, reindeer, snowman, and even giant flashing wrapped presents. Every single one of those items is a lighted Christmas decoration. Each year, I expect to get embarrassed when I have family and friends over for the holidays as they begin to drop one comment after another about the friendly neighbourhood light-show. However, it always becomes a source of laughter and entertainment.

A Brief Glance at the Bright Side
The best part of all of my neighbours having at least one lighted Christmas decoration is that I don’t have a need to turn my porch light on for an entire month. In fact, my hallway doesn’t even need a nightlight for the month because the light shines in so brightly. Perhaps I save a few dollars by not having to put those lights on. I can only imagine what their electric bills must be like for the month.
A Plea to the Enlightened (Xmas Decorator Mentalists)
I’m not sure why people feel the need to find a lighted Christmas decoration and show it off to every passerby. Draping pretty lights over your trees and shrubs, or even your roofs, is fun and festive. But, why the need to purchase the largest lighted Christmas decoration that you can find? And if you absolutely have to have an over-abundance of lighted Xmas decoration to get you in the mood for Christmas, please don’t move to my neighbourhood. I have all the holiday cheer I can handle for the season!
