There are as many reasons for choosing Egypt as a holiday destination as there are visitors to this stunning country. For some, Egypt’s year- round sunshine is the major attraction with well-developed resorts, great beaches and luxury hotels. Egypt’s treasures of antiquity with ancient temples, Pyramids and the magnificence of Karnak and Luxor prove the greatest draw for many other visitors and still more will cite a cruise on the Nile as their main reason for holidaying in Egypt.

For a growing number of tourists though, it’s the clear blue waters of the Red Sea that proves irresistible for snorkelling or scuba diving in the beautiful coral reefs lining the coastline and if your idea of great luxury holidays involves being in or on the water, then Hurghada is for you! Until recently, Hurghada was just a small fishing village but once tourists discovered the clear blue water and great opportunities for diving, Hurghada hotels quickly developed to accommodate the visitors flocking to what became a major diving destination. Those hotels vary in character from five-star luxury complete with private beach and a la carte cuisine to compact and family-friendly boutique furnished studios and apartments in a place that still retains its charm and character without too much overt commercialism.

It’s Hurghada’s warm waters which are ideal for rare fish and coral reefs that is the region’s major asset though and what makes this place so popular with the diving community is the fact that most dive sites are suitable for all levels of diving ability, from outright novice to highly experienced divers. The marine life is rich and varied and includes butterfly fish, moray eels, napoleon fish, turtles, grouper fish, dolphins, blacktip sharks and schools of surgeon fish. Egypt holidays to Hurghada aren’t restricted to just the summer either. t is a genuine all year round destination requiring a 3 mm wetsuit in the summer months and ideally a 5 – 7 mm wetsuit in winter. Sun worshippers are also well rewarded here, as the daily temperature hovers around 30 °C no matter what the month or season.
