Santa’s Landing Strip
“Ho, ho, ho! I need a clearly lit runway. Have you set up those Christmas lights for yard decorations yet? I don’t want to crash into your chimney this year.” Every year, my American cousin, Sean, transforms his front yard into a landing strip for Santa’s sleigh. That was him on the roof shouting through the megaphone he ‘borrowed’ from the location station for the benefit of his kids. And for every child within a 3-mile radius. He sure likes to compete with the neighbours, all in the name of good, clean holiday fun, of course.
Last year he actually went crazy in a Xmas Lights For Yard kind of way. People would dirve by his home one-handed, groping in their glove-boxes for sun-glasses. As Sean likes to say, “The light shines on the righteous.” But I say, “Armageddon is going to pretty bright too,” swiftly followed by, “Armageddon outa here.” Let’s hope Santa’s packing shades this year.
Setting the Bar at Christmas
Many people like to set the bar, if you haven’t already noticed. A few in Sean’s neighborhood even like to wind those massive Christmas Lights For Yard illuminations around their trees. Last year even Sean was awestruck by how decorative folks could get. He photographed Santa Claus and about 20 reindeer on his neighbour’s roof. The entire thing was animated and dowsed in what had to be fake snow. Does Santa even have that many reindeer? If he did, it would explain how he keeps himself busy for the rest of the year. Ranching is a lot of work.

The Entire Population of Lapland
This year we shall see who is the most inventive when it comes to the annual Christmas Lights For Yard wars. Sean plans to have the entire population of Lapland spread out on his front lawn. He’s talking about the whole Santa estate with toy-making elves and flying reindeer. I can’t wait to see how his neighbour is going to top that. And Sean is sure to get out his Santa suit and ‘borrow’ the megaphone again. “HO, HO, HO” at 120 dB can get pretty tiresome. Perhaps he’ll need to borrow more than just a megaphone to protect his, and Santa’s, homestead this year.
This Year’s Xmas Illuminations
You may find it easier to head out to the hyper home stores now. They always have lorry loads of Christmas decorations, props, Xmas lights for yard, animated figures, and artificial trees. Just take your pick from the vast selection. Sean has already acquired this year’s arsenal of Christmas lighting strings and rigs to beat the rush and pick up some pre-season bargains. He rarely waits for Hallowe’en before beginning to assemble his dazzling displays. This year, he has taken advantage of the web for his Christmas lights for the yard, so we can all expect something quite spectacular, I think… I dread to think.
